Staying in a shepherd hut is a great way to experience and immerse yourself in the wildness of Scotland. Shepherd Huts have been around for years but many have now evolved to have much of the same comforts that you would expect from a hotel.
A shepherd hut is usually fairly compact but sensibly equipped for cooking, eating and sleeping and its fairly common that they will have a wood burner to complete the authentic experience. As the name would suggest, many shepherd huts are located on farms so it is a great opportunity to combine staying somewhere a bit different with staying on a farm.
Shepherd huts are now a genre of accommodation in itself and websites such as AirBnB dedicate an entire section to them. It is a type of accommodation in remote settings so it tends to lend itself to travellers with access to a vehicle.
